Waxing and Waning Moon Studs

The moon does not change. What changes is how much of it we are shown. Each of these studs keeps the whole moon: one round lab-grown diamond, bezel set, its edge held in a thin rim of metal. Behind it lies a polished crescent, the part of the sky the moon has not yet reached, or has already left. On the left ear the crescent sits to the left; on the right ear, to the right. Worn together they read as a pair of phases, waxing on one side and waning on the other, the way the month moves. Choose the stone weight per ear, from one carat to three carats, and the metal: 18K yellow, rose or white gold, PT950 platinum or S925 sterling silver. Each pair is made to order in our workshop in 10 working days.

Design
Each stud holds one round lab-grown diamond in a low, slim bezel, with a polished crescent set behind it, its inner curve hugging the rim and its tips rising just above and below the stone. The pair mirrors: the crescent sits to the left on the left ear and to the right on the right. Bezel and crescent face are high polish, the crescent's back satin, and each stud sits close to the lobe on a push-back post.

• 2 ct + 2 ct: about 10.5 mm high × 11 mm wide, roughly 6.5 mm deep
• 3 ct + 3 ct: about 11.5 mm high × 12.5 mm wide, roughly 7 mm deep
• Post: standard straight post with push-back.
