Slanting Rain Pear Studs

Rain is not always vertical. On the days that matter it comes across, and each drop draws a short line before it lands. A pear-cut lab-grown diamond, point up, set in three prongs and leaned over at twenty-five degrees. Two small polished gold beads trail off the tip, the streak the drop has just made. The left and right ears lean opposite ways, so on the face the rain streaks in toward the cheeks from both sides. The setting is open at the back to let light through the stone, and the trail is a fine bar that swells only into each small bead, so it will not catch on hair. Choose a pear of 1 or 2 carats per ear, in 18K yellow, rose or white gold, PT950 platinum or S925 sterling silver. Each pair is made to order and finished in 10 working days.

Design
A pear-cut lab-grown diamond sits point up in three slender prongs, leaned over at twenty-five degrees like rain blown sideways. From its tip a fine polished bar carries two small polished gold beads, the second a little smaller than the first, the streak a falling drop leaves behind. The pair is mirrored, so on the ear each stud slants in toward the cheek, and a push-back post holds it close to the lobe.

• 2 ct + 2 ct: about 12.5 mm long, roughly 6.5 mm deep
