Six Whiskers Oval Studs

Whiskers are measuring instruments. A cat uses them to know whether it will fit through a gap before it tries. Our version measures nothing but keeps the fan: an oval lab-grown diamond set upright in a slim bezel, and three polished wires spreading from each side, the middle one level, the others tilted just a little, each one tapering to a rounded tip. The wires are cast with the bezel's back plate in one piece, so they hold their angle, and they keep the same length at every stone size, so the fan is always there. The whole span is about the width of a fingertip, and from the front the oval reads as a small nose catching light. Choose the stone per ear from 1 or 2 carats, in 18K yellow, rose or white gold, PT950 platinum or S925 sterling silver. Each pair is made to order in our workshop and takes 10 working days.

Design
An oval lab-grown diamond stands upright in a slim polished bezel, the muzzle of the piece. From behind the bezel, three tapered wires fan out on each side like whiskers, the middle one level, the other two tilted gently up and down, each ending in a rounded, polished tip. The whiskers are part of the setting itself, so they keep their angle. The stud sits close and compact on the lobe, held by a push-back post.

• 2 ct + 2 ct: about 10.5 mm high × 13.5 mm wide, roughly 5.5 mm deep
