First Light Sun Studs

You have seen this once or twice, if you were awake for it: the sea flat and grey, and then a rim of light on the edge, and then the whole disc lifting clear. That is the moment held here. A round lab-grown diamond sits in four prongs just above a straight, satin-finished bar, the horizon. Seven polished rays fan from the top of the stone only; below the bar there is nothing, because the light has not reached there yet. It is a small piece, quiet on the lobe, and the rays give it a little more presence than a plain solitaire. Available in 1 or 2 carats per ear in 18K yellow, rose or white gold, PT950 platinum or S925 sterling silver. Every pair is made to order in 10 working days.

Design
A round lab-grown diamond is held in four prongs, its lower edge just touching a straight, satin-finished bar that reads as the horizon. Seven tapered, polished rays fan from the upper half of the setting only, the centre ray the longest; below the bar the metal stops. Each stud sits close and level on the lobe, the bar running horizontally beneath the stone, and fastens with a push-back post.

• 1 ct + 1 ct: about 9.5 mm high × 11 mm wide, roughly 5.5 mm deep
• 2 ct + 2 ct: about 11 mm high × 13 mm wide, roughly 6.5 mm deep
• Post: standard straight post with push-back.
