As a result, moissanite tends to flash with more rainbow color, especially in larger stones under bright sunlight, while diamond weaves its colored flashes through strong white brilliance. Neither look is wrong. They are simply different, and preference is personal.
Names, weights and honest descriptions
Names carry real weight here. Moissanite takes its name from the scientist who first discovered it, and it should always be sold as moissanite. Because it resembles diamond, it is also described as a diamond simulant, a term for any material that imitates the look of diamond without being diamond. A lab-grown diamond, by contrast, is diamond, with its origin disclosed through words such as lab-grown or laboratory-grown. The phrase lab diamond should describe only a diamond.
Weight is described differently too. Moissanite is a little less dense than diamond, so stones of the same size do not weigh the same, and moissanite is often described by its measurements in millimeters. When comparing the two, compare dimensions rather than carats. Testing needs care as well: both materials conduct heat well, so a simple handheld heat tester alone may not separate them, and specialists rely on additional methods.
